Jimmy jam and Terry Lewis

Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are an American production team who has been working
together since 1980’s. Jimmy Jam or James Harris was born on June 6, 1959 in
Minneapolis, Minnesota. Terry Lewis was born on November 24, 1956 in Omaha,
Nebraska. They work as a production team and has achieved great success in the field
of music production.

The pair met up for the first time to form the band called “Fyle Tyme” which later got
rechristened into “The Time”. The four albums that the group produced as their first are
“The Time”, “What Time Is It?” and “Pandemonium”. The albums “The Time” and “What
Time Is It?” shaped the R&B music of the early eighties. They worked with various artists
like The SOS Cherrelle and Alexander O’Neal. However, their most ravishing success
came with the duo’s work with Janet Jackson with the release of her album “Control” in
the year 1986.

The duo won Grammy awards for the same album. Their next album
together was “Rhythm Nation” that is considered even more successful than the previous
one.

James and Terry Lewis founded the record label Perspective Records around this time.
They worked with many great artists of the era like Jordan Knight, Michael Jackson, Boyz
ii Men, Usher, Mary and The Human League, Mariah Carey and Mary J. Blige. Another of
the achievements of the duo is attending Utada Hikaru’s concert in Japan named
Bohemian Summer.

On December 19, 2007, the duo is declared as “The Greatest
Producers of All Time” on “The Cedric Muhammed And Black Coffee Program”. They
won the reputation beating the mammoth competitors, the likes of which are Kanye
West, Babyface, Timbaland and quite a few others.
