Russell Simons and Phat Farm

Russell Simons is has introduced the hip-hop style in America. He is best
known for his record Def Jam. This active philanthropist runs many
charitable organizations in America.

The Def Jam legend was born in
Queens, New York in 1957. He has grown up in a black middle class
society. His youth starts with his first business of dealing cocaine and
marijuana. But in late 1970’s he got into the world of rap music. He then
formed his own production house called Rush Productions.

This production
house helped the rap artists to come to the world’s stage. Simons had
that intention to promote the rap artist in America.
Starting that business with an honest intention Simons founded a clothing
company in 1992. The company was Phat Fashion LLC. Phat Farm wass
the flagship brand of this company. In that clothing company Simons had
another thought that he wished to popularize.

He tried to make a
combination of two different genres, the popular dressing culture of
America and the street culture of the society. He wanted to mix both of
the tastes and form a new one. Simons gave a great attention to the
clothing company. He introduced Baby Phat after a few months.

Baby
Phat is designed by Kimora Lee, a model and Simons’s wife. But that
experiment was a big failure for Simons and his wife. In the first six years
Americans did not accept the new fashion as Simon planned. At last in
the year 2004 Simons sold the company to Kellwood Group for $140 million
as the official reports say.
